In the spring of 2013, the three existing MRCs (Medical Reserve Corps) in the Central Massachusetts region 2 have worked together with a committee to help identify ways to improve services made available through the Medical Reserve Corps. The decision was made to create regional MRC divisions with the Worcester Regional MRC, while expanding the coverage of other two MRCs. The three existing MRCs will continue as nationally recognized units, however the Wachusett MRC has expanded it’s service area and Grafton has become Greater Grafton MRC to also expand it’s service area.
The Worcester Regional MRC has been broken down into 4 divisions. In this, there is the hope that smaller divisions that remain under the larger Worcester Regional MRC would allow for closer interaction with the volunteers in one specific area of the Region. This does not however, limit a volunteer from assisting in a large scale event elsewhere in the region if assistance is needed and the volunteer is willing and available. Additionally, the MRCs and divisions hope to best engage their volunteers and continue to keep them active in local events should it be desired.
